The Material Selection Logic Behind Indoor Basketball Court Wooden Flooring

The selection of raw materials for indoor basketball court wooden flooring is a professional process that balances natural wood characteristics and sports functional requirements, and every link is closely related to the use experience and service life of the venue. Not all types of wood are suitable for making basketball court flooring. The first screening criterion is the hardness and density of the wood. Wood with too low density is too soft, and it is easy to leave permanent indentations after being impacted by shoe spikes or heavy objects for a long time, which will destroy the flatness of the court; wood with too high density is too hard, and it cannot effectively absorb the impact force, which will cause excessive reaction force to the athlete's knee joints and ankle joints, increasing the risk of sports injuries.

The wood used for the surface layer of basketball courts usually needs to go through a long natural air-drying or artificial drying process to strictly control the moisture content within a very narrow range. This process cannot be rushed. If the drying time is not enough and the moisture content is too high, after the floor is laid, as the indoor environment temperature and humidity change, the wood will shrink significantly, and obvious gaps will appear between the boards, which will not only affect the flatness of the court but also easily accumulate dust and sundries in the gaps. If the moisture content is too low, the wood will become too brittle, and it is easy to crack when subjected to strong impact, shortening the service life.

In addition to the surface wood, the material selection of the underlying keel and base board also has its own professional standards. The keel material needs to have good toughness and structural stability, and it will not deform or bend after long-term load-bearing. The base board needs to have strong nail holding force, and the screws fixed on it will not loosen due to frequent impact, ensuring that the entire floor structure will not produce abnormal noise or local displacement during long-term use. Many people ignore the importance of underlying materials, but in actual use, the quality of underlying materials often determines the overall service life of the entire floor system.

When selecting materials, it is also necessary to consider the adaptability of the material to different indoor environments. For venues located in different climatic zones, the range of temperature and humidity changes throughout the year is very different, so the corresponding material treatment processes are also different. For example, in areas with high humidity in summer, the floor materials need to have better anti-moisture expansion performance, while in areas with dry and cold winters, the materials need to undergo more stringent anti-shrinking treatment. This targeted material selection adjustment is the key to ensuring that the floor can maintain stable performance in different regions for a long time.
